Within her first four years she began to perform in plays put on by the high schools of her parents. A few years later, Cahill took classes in dancing and singing. In 1991, she won Miss Pre-Teen Virginia and first runner-up for Miss Junior America. Her acting continued throughout her time in high school in Brooke Point High School where she served as the head of several clubs, including The Honor Thespians group. As a junior Cahill was the sole one in her class to earn the highest scores at every stage of her audition to the Governors School for the Arts in the field of drama. When she was 16, she took home the overall award in the Actors Models Talent for Christ contest. She was also selected for in the Barton and Williams Dance Company with the company, and was awarded both distinctions. When she graduated of high school, in 1998 she began her studies in Marymount Manhattan College (New York) with a performance and academic arts award. She left college at age 19 to pursue an full-time acting career in Los Angeles.
